western Tour of Bhutan
Day 1. Paro
You will be received by our representative at Paro. Paro the most beautiful of all Bhutan’s valley was also historically the centre of two of the most important trade routes to Tibet. Here the Paro Chuu flows south from its watershed in the Jhomolahri range. On a rocky outcrop of the sleep hillside stands the Paro Dzong, at an altitude of just over 7000feet, overlooking both sides of the valley, this dzong was historically one of Bhutan’s strongest and most strategic fortresses. Before the rebuilding of the Tashichodzong at Thimphu, it was also the seat of the National Assembly. The Paro Dzong has a long and fascinating history. A monastery was first guilt on the site by Padma Sambhava at the beginning of the tenth century. We will visit the beautiful Dzong and latter an evening stroll in the town.
Day 2. Paro
Our second day would be a hike up to Taktsang or the Tiger’s nest as most people call it so. It’s built on a vertical granite cliff 800m above the valley. It’s one of the holiest sites for Himalayan Buddhism. In the 8th Century Guru Rinpochhe, widely known as the second Buddha, arrived from Tibet flying across the mountains on the back of a tigress. He meditated at the site for three months, from where he used the religious cycle of the Kagye to subjugate the Eight Categories of Evil Spirits, and thus converted the region to Buddhism. A hike to this temple will take most of our morning as its five hrs hike to and fro. Overnight at Paro
Day 3. Paro to Thimphu
Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan, it a place of opportunity, where you will see people from all walk of life. Upon reaching Thimphu we will visit the Tashichodzong the head office for central administrative. You will see the unique architect of Bhutan. Later visit Changangkha lhakhang, the zori chu sum institute and a drive to the Buddha point to see the Giant Buddha and the view of beautiful Thimphu valley. We can also visit the first Dzong built in Bhutan called Semtokha. Drive to Buddha point to see the spectacular view of the entire Thimphu city. Stroll in the town of Thimphu. Overnight at Thimphu
Day 4 Thimphu -Punakha
Early morning excursion to Punakha, Punakha our next destination is the winter capital for the central monk body, during the olden day people knew the change of season with the movement of central monk body. Because in winter the central monk body come to Punakha from Thimphu and move back Thimphu during summer. On the way we will halt for a break at Dochula to see the beautiful mountain of Bhutan, here you will see 108 same stupas built by the royal family. And if the weather is fair enough we will see Himalayan mountain range capped with snow.
In Punakha we will visit the beautiful fortress built between the two flowing river. Overnight at Punakha .
Day 5. Punakha - Thimphu
Another day in Thimphu, we will visit the Sunday local market and then head to the Bhutan post office to see the beautiful stamps collection of Bhutan. A visit to Tarayana art gallery, the textile museum, folk heritage and in the evening a visit to the TASHICHO DZONG, it’s a fortress that remarks the architect of Bhutan. Dinner and if you like, you can check out the night life in Bhutan too. There are disco clubs and bar to hop around. Overnight at Thimphu.
Day 6. Thimphu - Paro
On the way to Paro we will visit Tacgogang Gompa. This private temple was founded by the Tibetan saint, Thangthong Gyelpo, famously know as the “Iron Bridge Lama” here you will also see his master piece work. If one wishes to see the history of Bhutan, he or she should visit the national museum of Bhutan famously know as Paro Ta dzong which means “watch tower”. This museum has lot to show you about the history and culture of Bhutan. Later in the evening we will drive to the old Drugyel Dzong and if the weather permits you will get to see a spectacular view of the mount Jomolahari (7120fts). Visit the kichu temple.
Day 7. Departure
